Singer-songwriter Rowan Smith's songs have appeared in the Triple J Hottest 100 and ARIA Top 20 airplay charts.
Rowan founded Melbourne bands Macguffins and later Barefoot, before moving to Hobart where he has produced a further six solo albums.
Barefoot's debut album - Long Time Strangers - was released in Canada through A&M Records.
In 2020, New York indie label Cloudberry Records produced the 23-song CD Digipak - Macguffins Retrospective - for release in the U.S.A and U.K after hearing the bandβs Australian indie hit - Rich Together - on a mixtape.
In 2024 Rowanβs ninth album - in the key of kintsugi - glues all the pieces together.
βKintsugi is all about embracing imperfection. Rowan Smithβs new album might not be perfect but, gee, itβs good. Smithβs songs provide solace amidst the chaos of everyday life.β β Jeff Jenkins (ABC radio, Rhythms magazine)
β βin the key of kintsugiβ is a beautiful album, filled with nuance and delicacy: fragments of shimmering music written over the years but bound together by gentle observant poetry and melodies that shine like veins of gold.β β Arun Kendall (Backseat Mafia, April 2024)
βOn song after song Smith shows he is one of the finest lyricists we have, emotional but unsentimental, finding the consolations of philosophy without succumbing to the torments in life or on our screens.β
βThis is poetic but unfussy songwriting of a kind that will find an audience in every generation. Musical fads rise and fall, great songs endure. Fans of writers such as Edwyn Collins, The Go-Betweens, Lloyd Cole and Elliott Smith, donβt miss this.β β Noel Mengel (Loudmouth / Music Trust E-Zine, May 2024)
