I am a founding member of the band Macguffins. We were part of the vibrant, independent music scene in Melbourne during the late eighties and early nineties.
When Macguffins broke up I went on to form Barefoot, around a publishing deal with Rondor Music.
Both bands had indie hits. Macguffins’s 7" single release ‘Rich Together’ was played on high rotation by independent radio stations, especially 3RRR and 3PBS in Melbourne and Triple J in Sydney. This single is now a sought after indie music fan’s collector’s item.
Barefoot appeared in Triple J’s annual Hottest 100 listing with the song ‘Baby’. Another song, ‘Face Under The Moon’, made the Australian commercial radio Top 20. The Barefoot album Long Time Strangers, was released in Canada through A&M Records.
In what I call the second most unexpected thing to happen in 2020, a Macguffins retrospective was released by indie label Cloudberry Records, in New York. This release has 23 songs remastered from some high quality demo tapes that we first made available to fans at gigs on cassette, and which we've since learned made their way around the globe on various mix tapes.
After a further five solo albums, Macguffins has now reformed.
